"A sound mind in a sound body"
- Hence in our school, we give prime importance to the physical development of
the students as it always leads to the strengthening of mind. Our spacious
school play ground is fully used by for developing skills in various games and
athletic events. As usual we divided the school in to four houses, Blue,
Green, Yellow and Red and we conducted semi finals, and finals last year and
also this academic year. In July 2004, we conducted sports day and Thiru. B.V.
Selvaraj, I.A.S., Education Secretary presided over the function and handed
over the prizes. For the year 2005 the prizes distributed by the Chief
Guest Dr. T.G. Palanivelu, Principal, Pondicherry Engineering College.
In the zone I
athletics meet conducted by the Education Department, our budding sportsmen
performed extremely well and brought glory to our school. Our boys bagged
204 points and placed first in Zonal level. Junior championship was
shared by two of our school boys with 13 points each. Master P. Prasanna of IX
- C and Master M. Raviganesh of X-D got the above distinction.
Master B.
Sreenath of XII-B got the senior chamionship title in Zone I athletic meet.
Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School is the only school in the entire
Pondicherry state to secure the best school award in sports consecutively for
26 years (i.e) from 1979 till up to 2005 without any break.
The 42nd
National Roller Skating Chamionship was held at Faridabad. More than 1100
participants from all over India took part. Master S. Pradeep Kumar of VI - D
won sliver medal and he is adjudged as the first skater from Pondicherry to
won a medal in the National Skating Championship.
Karate Federation
of
India which is affiliated to World Karate Confederation conducted Karate
Championship from July 22nd to 25th at Ambala in Hariyana. Master R. Ananda
Balaji XI - A2 won the Gold medal in under 16 category and Master N. Ezhilan
of IX - C bagged gold medal in under 14 category.
We were able
conduct 7th Archbishop's rolling trophy in August 2004 in the newly
constructed auditorium.
Pondicherry
Police Department conducted 32nd Children Traffic Corps (CTC) for the year
2004-05. 88 students from various schools participated in the training and out
of 6 prizes our boys bagged 3 prizes. Master Maria Gilbert Mangella of IX - C
got the first prize, Master N. Arul of IX - F secured the fourth place, Master
R. Sreevarthan of IX - A got the fifth prize and all were honoured by Lt.
Governor of Pondicherry on the Republic Day.
The Pondicherry
State Chess Association conducted state level chess competition and Master M.
Kadirvelu of V - G won the first prize in under 9 years category and he also
represented in the National Chess competition held at Ahmadabad.
The Pondicherry State Chess
Association conducted state level chess competition for under 17 category on
29th August 2004 and Master V. Harish Kumar of VII - D bagged third
place and Master P. Avinash bagged third place and both were selected to
participate in the National Chess tournament held at Jharkand.
St.Patrick Matriculation Higher Secondary School conducted its Second State
Level ranking Table Tennis Tournament in July 2004 and we bagged all the 8
prizes in the boys level.
IFET college of engineering conducted its second IFET Trophy 2004 interschool
basket ball tournament and our boys secured the second place.
The fifth Junior National Indoor Cricket Championship was conducted at NASIK.
Three of our students Master. R. Ragunath of XII-B, Master. B. Sasidharan of
XII-B1 and Master. T. Vimalraj of XII - C received gold medal.
In the Second All India Yoga Festival conducted at Kanchipuram, Master. R.
Balakrishnan of VIII-B won fourth place in All India level.
2006-07
Education Department, Pondicherry conducted Zone – I athletic games meet and
our contingent performed extremely well and brought laurels to our school. Our
boys bagged 154 points and placed in the first position. I place on record
that ours is the only school in the entire Pondicherry state to secure the
best school award in sports consecutively for the last 27 years from 1979 till
2006 without any break.
We conducted 8th Archbishop’s rolling trophy from July 15th to 17 under the
auspices of Pondicherry table tennis association. Our students performed
excellently well in table tennis conducted by Circle de Pondicherry, St.
Patrick Hr. Sec. School, Krishnamal Govindapathy Memorial sports club,
Every year 8 seats are reserved for meritorious sportsmen in Pondicherry in
various engineering Colleges through CENTAC. In 2005 July admission, 6 of our
sportsmen got seats in Engineering colleges. Master B. Sreenath, Irfon Sheriff
and Thirumalpriyan in PEC. Master Ramprasad and Nalenda in Manakula Vinayagar
Engineering college, Master Ragunath in Rajiv Gandhi Engineering college.
Pondicherry Aquatic association conducted inter school swimming competition on
7th August 2005. R. Ananthachari of 9 B secured 3 gold medals and one Bronze
medal.
43rd National Roller skating championship was conducted at Kolkatta during
21st and 28th January 2006. Master S. Pradeep kumar of 6th std. D, won the
bronze medal. Master R.S. Aakhas of 2nd G has won in the bronze medal. Master
R.S. Aakhas of
2nd std. G has won the bronze medal in Indian classical dance on the roller
skating.
We received Sri Vengataranga Reddiar memorial Trophy for the best performance
on Karate.
8th Pondicherry open state roller skating championship was held in our school
on 9th and 10th December 2005 and in St. Patrick school on 24th Dec. 2005. We
were able to bag 17 gold, 19 silver and 20 bronze medals. Achariya group
educational institution, Villianur conducted different sports events in
connection with Tunami 2006 and our boys bagged most of the prizes,
In the 6th All India international Kate championship, Master M. Sakthisivan of
6-G won the gold medal in Boys Junior individual Kate.
Udayan chess academy conducted state level chess competition on 22nd January
2006 and V.Prasanna Kumar of 8th A got the first prize.
AFT chess club conducted active open chess tournament on 1st and 2nd October
2005 at St. Patrick school, and Master V.Harish Kumar of 8th D scored 5.5
point out of 8 rounds and finished 9th place in the senior level.
This year is another remarkable year in the history of Petit Seminaire as our
March past contingent received the shield for their best performance on August
15th 2005 from Hon’ble Chief minister of Pondicherry and again for the best
performance in Republic day parade from His Excellency Lt. Governor of
Pondicherry.
Pondicherry state level Yoga Olympiad 2005 organised by Universal association
of yoga in which T.Thivakar of 9th A got the first prize.
State level Judo championship organized by Pondicherry Judo Association at
Rajiv Gandhi Indoor stadium and Master T. Ramkumaran of 9th E won the gold
medal in sub junior grade under 45kg.
All India Individual Speed Skating Championship was held at Pune on 22nd &
23rd May 2006 in which 1100 player from all over India participated. Master
Harshal R of 7th C won both Gold & Bronze medal.
Ice Skating Association of India conducted 4th National Ice Skating
Championship on 6th and 7th of June 2006 at Kolkatta. Students from 11
different states participated and Master. S. Ashwinkumar of 2nd A won gold
medal under 9 years category and he is adjudged as the youngest skateror in
Figure skating.
Master s. Pradeepkumar of 7th D in sub junior grade won the silver medal in
the same Ice Skating competition held at Kolkatta.
Time does not permit me to go in to details and I take this opportunity to
think the meritorious sportsmen and the three physical education teachers, Mr.
V. Jayakumar, Mr. Alexis Anburaj Suresh and Mr. Motsa Irudayaraj for their
excellent service.
