19. Fr.S. ANTONISAMY – Eco
friendly priest (2002 – 2007)
Fr.S.Antonisamy was born on October 23, 1963 at Viriyur to Mr.Solomon and
Mrs.Veronical. His Seminary formation was at Cuddalore and Bangalore during
1978 to 1991. He was ordained priest on May 15, 1991. He served as assistant
at Cathedral Parish and at St.Agnes’ Minor Seminary, Cuddalore during 1991 to
1994.
He moved to Akkrapalayam in 1994 as Parish Priest and after three years he was
made Parish Priest and Headmaster at Michaelpuram in 1997 and in January 2002
he was made Head master of Our Lady of Lourdes Boys’ High School, Villianur.
Fr.Antonisamy came to Petit Seminaire as Principal on August 5, 2002. The
school stepped into the eco-friendly era with Fr.Antonisamy. The traditional
way of disposing the waste by fire was stopped and pollution free solid waste
management method was the first thing to be introduced. Lot of saplings were
planted in and around the school and also in Oupalam ground. St.Therese street
between Mahathma Ganthi and Mission street was made green with trees. Rain
Water Harvest scheme was done in many locations in the school campus and an
average of two thousand cubic meters of water is annually harvested and
percolated through the tube wells.
Table Tennis auditorium in the Oupalam ground in July 2003, renovation of
Eastern wing of the main block and installation of fully air conditioned Audio
Visual room at the old library with LCD and OHP projectors, Digital Microscope
and Public Address system in 2003. Health care centres for the benefit of the
students and staff both in the High and Primary sections with fully qualified
physician and nurses in March 2004. A security cum Parlour room near the main
gate in March 2004 and in the same year the name boardof Petit Seminaire
Higher Secondary school was replaced with brass letters over the main
entrance. Eight class rooms with toilet block, the second floor over the
Golden Jubilee block, an additional stair case, staff room and health care
room both bath attached were built in the Oupalam campus in March 2004. A neat
toilet block towards the southern compound wall of Oupalam ground in June
2004. An hygienic toilet cum bath block in the Southern side of main school in
June 2005, A twin basket ball courts with fiber glass boards and flood lights
and Mgr.Clement Bonnand block Ground floor in October 2005, Eight more class
rooms and a spacious hall over the Clement Bonnand block in 2006, New toilet
blocks in the first floor of Golden Jubilee block was added in 2006. New and
independent Public Address system in Chapel, in Escande Hall and In
Mgr.Clement Bonnand Hall at the cost of Rs4,50,000/- New and convenient
benches and desks in forty class rooms replacing the old ones. Individual
tables and chairs for the purpose of examination in the Clement Bonnand hall,
600 meters length of steel barricades for school and diocesan function
functions at primary school. The compound wall of the main entrance was given
a face lift and the damaged wall between the mission house and the assembly
ground was replaced with new one.
33 new multi media computers, and three at library with broad band internet
facility, a laser copier machine, five laser printers of which one is colour,
cash counting machine, bio metric electronic movement register were added to
the assets column of Petit Seminaire. Only once subscription was collected
from the students at the rate of Rs 100/ per students and the rest was done
with the local resources.
To improve and to sustain the lead in the academic side Fr.Antonisamy took the
following measures like parents meeting with the principal and class teachers
on Saturdays, Remedial classes for the slow learners, supervised study for 10
standard slow learners, dummy numbers for the terminal examinations and
question papers from the outside agencies.
Housing plots for about 65 teachers were arranged as a well fair measure to
teachers in 2004.
God willed that Fr.Antonisamy has to move to St.Mary’s Higher Secondary
School, Karaikal, to guide the destiny of that school and left Petit Seminaire
relinguishing his responsibilities on Fr. M.S.John Bosco on June 1, 2007.
