17. Fr. A. ARULAPPAN - a
person of simplicity ( 1997 – 1999 )
Fr.Arulappan was born on January 28, 1939 at Melsithamur near Gingee to Mr &
Mrs. Annappan and Theresammal. He had his seminary formation both at St.Agnes
and St.Peter’s and was ordained priest on December 20, 1969.
His first appointment was at St.Mary’s High School, Karaikal in 1971 and after
serving there for four years he moved to R.C Teacher Training Institute,
Tindivanam in 1974. He was principal of St.Joseph’s Higher Secondary School,
Thirupapuliur during 1976 to 1984 and then once again went to Tindivanam but
this time as principal and manager of St.Anne’s Higher Secondary School where
he served for 12 long years.
He became the principal of Petit Seminaire in 1997 and served her for two
years.
The daily tests for X and XII standards were replaced by weekly tests. He
introduced the new scale of pay with arrears following the fifth pay
commission by increasing school fee from 210 to 270 per month. Eight new class
rooms were added over the Sesqui Centenary block ground floor and the spacious
library near the entrance of the main school were built by him.
Fr.Arulappan was known for his simplicity and organized all the school
functions without much pomp and show.
Give every man thine ear, but few thy voice, Fr.Arulappan excemplified this
quotation in his life till he got retirement due to super annuation in July
1999.
He served as rector, St.John’s Provincial seminary Cuddalore for five months
and due to renal failure he passed away on Janyary 25, 2000.
18. Fr. M. DOMINIC ROZARIO – A priest of versatile Potential (1999 – 2002)
Fr.Dominic Rosario was born on October 26, 1946 at Tambaram, Chennai to
Mr.Marianathan and Mrs.Christinal. He had his seminary formation at Cuddalore
and Banglore during 1960 to 71 and was ordained priest on December 21, 1971.
After his ordination he served as assistant for ten long years from 1972 to
1982 at St.Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Cuddalore-1, Karaikal Parish,
Athipakkam parish, R.C.Teacher Training Institute, Tindivanam and St.Anne’s
Higher Secondary School, Tindivnam. He had his first independent assignment as
Head Master of R.C.Teacher Training Institute, Tindivanam in 1982 where he
served for 13 long years then moved to St.Joseph’s Higher Secondary School,
Thirupapuliyur in 1993.
The Yoke of administration of petit Seminaire fell on the shoulders of
Fr.Dominic Rosario in 1999. He introduced full uniform complete with tie and
shoes. Regularity cards were issued to students to minimize absenteeism. A
staff council was set up to bring about greater co-ordination in
administration. He promoted most of the eligible Secondary Grade Teachers to
School Assistant Grade II following the Pondicherry Government to hand over
the middle school classes in the hands of graduate teachers.
He was a lover of sports and games and a powerful preacher too. He renovated
the Grand Seminary block which was built in 1877.
Fr.Dominic Rosario left Petit Seminaire in August 2002 for his pastoral work
at Bahoor from there to Our Lady of Lourdes Boys High School, Villianur
in------ and to Fatima Higher Secondary School, Muthialpet as principal in
------ and then he took up the charge of Secretary Board of Education of the
Archdiocese and Parish priest of Oupalam, Pondicherry in 2007.
