12. Fr.R. RATCHAGAR (

Fr.Ratchagar.R was born on June 18, 1938 at Sathipattu, near Panruti to
Mr.Rayappan and Mrs.Adaikalamary. He had his minor and major seminary
formation during 1955 to 1964 at Cuddalore and Bangalore. He was ordained

He was assistant at Petit Seminaire in 1964 -65 and moved to Loyola College,
Madras for his studies and immediately after his studies he joined Petit
Seminaire as principal in 1970.
Those days, when beard was considered as part of priesthood, were slowly
changing and we find a priest without a beard as the new principal and that
was Fr.R.Ratchagar.
A man with novel ideas, Fr.Ratchagar showed much interest in audio visual
education and arranged for regular film shows, educational as well as
recreational in the evenings. He also printed for the first time the school
calendar. The broad staircase on the northern side and the collapsible gate on
the first floor were his additions to the main building.
Then he moved to Fatima High School in 1971 giving way to Fr.Philip, a senior
priest borrowed from Bangalore. He served as the principal of St.Joseph’s
Higher Secondary School, Cuddalore 1 during 1981 to 1997 the at St.Joseph’s
ITI as director during 1997 to 2002. Since 2002 he is serving as the director
of Pondicherry Multipurpose Social Service Society.
13. Fr.C.N. PHILIP (1971 – 72 )
Fr.Philip’s service was borrowed from the Archdiocese of Bangalore. He was at
Petit Seminaire for a brief period of 15 months.
He was much interested in developing the diverse talents of students and made
arrangements to conduct rhetoric classes in English and Tamil on Thursdays.
Outside the school hours he could be seen on the roads riding his bicycle and
visiting the parents and students in their houses.
He started replacing the old desks and benches in Escande hall with sleek
furniture from Tindivanam Industrial Training Centre.
He left to Canada for higher studies in September 1972.
