2005-06

    The main objectives of NSS namely to inculcate spirit of service and social concern towards fellowmen, are imparted to each and every volunteer through NSS activities like eradication of illiteracy, awareness towards AIDS, mass cleaning of temples.

    Through our NSS volunteers, we arranged mass cleaning of School campus at St. sebastian Primary School at T.V. Nagar, rain water harvesting campus, No-Plastic campaign in Jawaharlal Nehru Street, mass tree planting campaign etc.,

    The high light of this year is that we could organise one 5 day special camp at Ousteri from 26th Dec. to 30th Dec. 2004. Rev. Fr. Ratchagar, Director, PMSSS inaugurated this camp. NSS volunteers planted trees, repaired the link roads, attended lectures given by Prof. Arul Jothi, Mr. Senthil, Director of Maitreyi, Dr. Irudayaraj about AIDS awareness.

    Another land mark of NSS is the launching of Free Coaching Class scheme for children of Dubrayapet during 2004. The scheme was inaugurated by State Liaison officer for NSS Dr. E.M. Rajan. Nearly 140 students from 6th to 10th std. got immensely benefited by this scheme. Good number of our teachers came out to coach these children.

2006-07

    “NOT ME BUT YOU” – This motto of NSS has been fully followed by our NSS volunteers during this year. 23 social reformation activities were organized and were executed in an excellent way.


    On 2nd July 2005, Mr. Martin Selvaraj, Tagore Arts College, Pondicherry, inaugurated the activities for the freshers.
On 7th August 2005, 38 saplings were planted in primary school as well as in Dubrayapet.


On 26th Nov. 2005, an awareness programme was organized regarding environmental conservation and about garbage separation.


    With the help of NSS volunteers, a survey was undertaken regarding educational status of the children of Dubrayapet. Based upon the survey, the school offers free coaching in the evening in our primary school campus and the scheme was inaugurated by Dr. E.M. Rajan, State Liaison Officer, NSS.


    From 26th Dec. 2005 upto 4th Jan. 2006 a special camp was organized in Kolping High School, Kalapet. Dr. E.M. Rajan inaugurated the camp and all the volunteers participated with full enthusiasm and vigour and worked for the betterment of the society. The valedictory function was presided over by Thiru M.O.H.F. Shajahan, the then MLA of lawspet constituency.

2007-08

 

The NSS unit of Petit Seminaire HSS has successfully conducted 22 programmes during 2007 – 2008.


On 23rd June 2007, the Canara Bank and the NSS unit of Petit Seminaire jointly organized a meeting emphasize the importance of savings among the youth. Mr. Suresh, Chief Manager, Canara Bank spoke on the occasion.


On 14th July 2007, a mass tree-planting programme was conducted at Dubrayapet.


On 28th July 2007, Population awareness programme was conducted at Vambakeerapalayam and Mr. A. Mani, lecturer in Commerce emphasized the adverse effects of Population awareness.


Various useful programmes on National Integration, Religious harmony, Role of citizens in Nation Building, need for nutritious food, Blood donation, Eye donation awareness programme, self employment and Anti – polio Awareness were conducted throughout the year.


On 17th November 2007, the 38th NSS day was celebrated in which Mrs. Vanjulavalli, Joint Director of School Education awarded the Best State NSS programme officer Award to Mr. T.A.J. Edmand for his meritorious service.


From 29th December 2007 to 8th January 2008, 30 NSS volunteers performed their duties as translators to the delegates from Foreign University.


On 12th January 2008, AIDS awareness programme was conducted in which Dr. Gilbert Fernandez, Project Director of PACS, Dr. Rajan, NSS State Liaison Officer, Mr. Sundaramoorthy, State Co – ordinate participated.
